If you are a patient who takes a water pill and you start to have diarrhea, vomiting, or other reason for dehydration, you may hold your water pill for the days when dehydration occurs and then resume it once the dehydration issue is resolved. 

Some people believe that they should follow the doctor's orders and recommendations literally with no deviation. Well, there is room for flexibility and common sense when it comes to doctor orders, prescriptions and recommendations. If you are in doubt, always ask!
