We recognize that the healthcare provider may not be available all the time at the Long-term facility (e.g. nursing home, skilled nursing facilities, or mental health facility) to evaluate and treat the residents when there is a change in their usual state of health. When the provider is away, relying on the phone calls by staff may not be the optimal option. Due to the lack of optimal evaluation over the phone, residents are potentially transferred to the nearest ED for evaluation. Whether if the patient is admitted to the hospital or transferred back to the long-term facility, the transfer process has a toll on the patient, the staff, and on the available resources and healthcare costs.

Patients using Avicenna will be offered the option to get an electronic lab slip order to be done at their laboratory facility of choice. These options may include Labcorp, Quest Diagnostics or any other preferred facility of choice. Once the results are received and uploaded in our system, you will have the option to review the lab results on your patient portal and schedule a virtual follow up appointment to discuss results with your provider.
